Weather Balloon
Date Published: 3/1/2021
This project was started around October of 2019. I started this project because I wanted to get video of Earth from a high altitude. This project uses a large balloon 5ft in diameter filled with helium gas. Then it pulls a payload. This payload has cameras, bright lights, and a GPS unit attached. Once the balloon is released, it climbs to an altitude of about 65,000 feet. While the weather balloon is climbing, video is recorded constantly from two different cameras. Once the altitude is reached, the balloon will burst causing the payload to fall to the ground. As it bursts, the parachute will deploy falling safely to Earth. As the payload falls, I am able to track it using my phone and the onboard GPS unit. This project had to be put on hold becuase funding was lacking and helium supply was scarce.
