Robotic Hand
Date Published: 3/21/2021
I started this project around February of 2021. I built this robot becuase I wanted to simulate human hand. Before building it, I planned on how the fingers would move. I decided to use small servo motors to operate the fingers becuase I already had them laying around. I planned on using an arduino to make the hand move. Once I had the plan, I started to design the robotic hand in Autodesk Inventor. It took me about 2-3 weeks to design this robot.
After the robot was designed, I started 3D printing the components. Once that was done, I assembled the parts together and installed the 9g metal geared servos, arduino, and l298n h-bridge to control the hand rotation. The fingers have string attached. Once the servo rotates, the string gets pulled making the finger close. Once the assembly was finished, I wired the servos to the arduino. I also added a 6.3v 470μF capacitor between the 5v and ground of the arduino. Next, I programmed the hand to open and close which can be seen in the video above. The last thing I did was cover the entire body with a long sock I had. This makes the hand look realistic. This project took me about 6 weeks to complete.
