Baking has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. I love mixing ingredients together and watching my final product come to fruition. Baking is both a science and an art, and I have found it quite therapeutic. When I am stressed out, I like to bake. It eases my mind off of my worries and takes me to a state of bliss.
My favorite things to bake include fruits that grow in our backyard. My go-to recipe is apple crisp, made from fresh home-grown apples. Watching the apples caramelize in the cinnamon and sugar mixture makes this treat irresistible. Adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream after the apple crisp is done baking complements this dish perfectly. The warm apple crisp combined with the ice cream is a dessert that will leave your taste buds wanting more. Another recipe that I make with home-grown apples is apple nut cake. This cake is perfect for the holidays and includes cinnamon and nutmeg. Nuts are optional, but they provide a nice crunch and texture to the cake.
In the summertime, my family and I like to go blackberry picking. We take early morning walks and pick a handful of ripe, juicy blackberries. After going home, we sometimes make blackberry juice. However, I love using the blackberries to make homemade blackberry pie. Homemade blackberry pie is delicious. In the oven, the blackberries turn into a thick, sticky, sweet jam full of rich flavor. Homemade blackberry pie tastes divine with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
